This area is the dark blue one on the monopoly board. Earns you £400 rent if you land on it. However if you live there you are more likely to pay £3,500 per week to live there.
The English were very imaginative when naming areas. Mayfair was so named because of the May Fair held there for a fortnight every year until it was banned in 1764. It seems it upset the new locals like the Earl of Coventry, who complained about the noise. They won their argument and thus began what would become the wealthiest real estate in the world.

Wow! This is SO London! :-)
perfect!
absolutely beautiful
/t.
I get a magazine called "The Week" which is weekly review of all the news. Every week they feature a two page photo spread of properties for sale usually by some theme like, colonial houses, houses with a view. This week they featured London Flats. They have one for sale in Mayfair. A 3 bedroom, apartment on two floors going for $7,200,000. Very pricey!
London calling ;)
I love those houses.
I love that you captured the gentleman (a doorman?)...so telling of the area.
Very beautiful, but somehow I don't think I would like to live in one of them.
this photograph makes me smile :)
... and you forgot about the Rolls and the Bentleys in the street! :-)
Of course no "normal" person can today afford to live here, but it's so wonderfully British and so nice to see. The international headquarters of the company I was working for were in this area and I used to have some nice walks around (the time of a cigarette)!
When we were in London the taxi took us through this area. Talk about out of my league!
Is that chap with the top hat a doorman?
Wow. That's an astronomical amount of money!
Fascinating! I usually aim to buy "Mayfair" asap when I play Monopoly. If I manage I usually wein the game. But that's the only thing I could afford! Ciao. Antonella
It is another very expensive world.
Fantastic shot!
