Over 47 million people a year pass through this station. At present it looks like a work site. The upgrading will continue until 2013. All part of the redevelopment work in the area. Once known as a hang out for prostitutes and drug addicts, now trendy and known as mid-town.

Probably in need of an upgrade seeing as it was opened in 1852. Like the shot - so much going on.
Strange how so many areas which "were once haven to drug dealers and prostitutes" are now trendy... it is like a worldwide phenomenon.... I am thinking I should go and live in these areas... purely on a speculative basis :::)))
The same King's Cross as in HP :)? I'm sorry, the first time I read about King's Cross was from that book.
Henny -- I agree. It's King's Cross station where Harry boards the Hogwarts Express. Not that I'm showing my Geek side at all Mo.

I have been meaning to board a train from Platform 9 3/4!!
Thanks for the pic mo. This reminds me of when I stayed in London not far from Kings Cross station - at the Ryan Hotel. We would get off at King's Cross station and walk about 1/2 hour to the hotel in the evening. We found it unusual that there was nobody on the streets just hanging out or just sitting outside their houses. This was in the early 80's. Also I remember a tough looking girl/young woman challenging me in the King's Cross station - just because I looked at her! PS: I didn't back down! Oh how I love London!

Wow, that is a huge and busy station! I'm sure the upgrading and redevelopment was welcome news.
Ever since I read it, I keep thinking of Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere" when I hear the names of London's stations.
Would it bigger than waterloo once the upgrade is completed?

I think Waterloo station has become a bit of a white elephant, a very quiet station these days.
I can report that station 9 3/4 while covered in plastic at present, will return. It may just move slightly.
This area has changed so much since I lived in London. A real no go area then.
