Following on from yesterday's catching fish, today it's eating fish. For a national dish it's jolly hard to find it cooked so you'd want to eat it.
Well I've found the best fish and chips in London. I know this is not a usual post for me but I was so impressed I just had to share this place with you.
For starters the fish is cooked fresh. I was astounded when I arrived in London to find that you are usually dished up something that has sat under warming lights for several hours. Or beaten to within an inch of its life to appear larger. Then coated in something disgusting known as batter.
Not here. Freshly grilled or fried. Lightly battered if you wish. More importantly cooked as fish should be. Succulent, juicy and fresh.
Thumbs up for the guys at Pier 1, Hawley Street, Camden.

Mm interesting, not too far from us. Have you tried the Fryers Delight in Theobalds Road? it's got a genuine fifties or sixties interior and the fish is usually good. All the cabbies go there.
OMG - Thanks Mo! Everytime I visit London I am always disappointed by authentic English Fish n Chips. I'm definitely stopping by this place in october when I head across the pond yet again...
Sounds like it should not be missed!
For the Best Fish & Chips in the country you need to go to Whitby in Yorkshire.
They are fantastic, its all in the beef dripping
Fantastic! I'm yet to try fish & chips here - I was afraid of the batter - but this place sounds like a good place to start! I LOVE grilled fish. Thanks for sharing ;o)
Haven't had a decent fish and chips in yonks!!
'something that has sat under warming lights for several hours' - thats the BEAUTY of a REAL chippy!!!
the hardest thing I find is to get real chips - fish and fries : (
Yes, i like fish and ship , i had some yearss ago in Scotland and the fish was , as you say perfectly fresh :)
I'm a heathen. I don't like the taste of fresh fish - I find it too . . . um . . . fishy.
And beef dripping? Oh no! Please not!
Worse still - it's the chips I like best. (Soggy, hot, with crispy bits at the ends.)
I think the best Fish and Chips in the area surrounding London are at Stoby's in Salisbury. Check them out. They are amazing. Especially the tartar.
What a find! I like this photo combo. Finding good fish and chips is a hard task, luckily we have the best Chippie in Chelt just around the corner!
I love fish & chips, but I love fried clams & scallops even better! :)
Fish and chips - yumm! Delicious photo!
Fish and chips - yumm! Delicious photo!
Vinegar too?
I am a huge fish and chips fan, too! In fact, when I was in Ireland recently I was moved to write poetry about that crispy, vinegary, lovely goodness...

Cheers!
Now this DOES sound good. I like the guys outfits/hats too.
I'm going to try it - thanks for the tip!
But batter's the best - and the fish and chips totally suck in the US. They don't even wrap them in newspaper!
I would sweat like a pig if I had to cook with a fedora hat.
yum! love fish and chips!
This is really cool!
what a great photo! plus thanks for the tip, yours and the one or two here in comments, all which I'm adding to my "next London trip" bits--oh hurry hurry
