Wood would be my favourite material to do that kind of sculpture too. Stone is just too much. Some people have patience, maybe they watch less TV then.
Just curious, did the sculptor chop down the tree prior him working on it? Or did he remove bits and pieces of the wood with the rest of the tree intact. Wasn't quite clear on the photo.

I second that. I watched someone do this for several hours once and I couldn't believe how it turned out. It takes SO much patience and vision.

It is a very cool skill! They do a lot of that up in New Hampshire where there are so many trees!
