Boys delighted in showing you (even if a girl) the fruits of their labours. Some taking 12 years or more to complete. These boys had very impressive models of famous bridges, power stations, pump houses, working cranes, ship, boats planes. You name it they had created the replica working model.
Meccano they tell us is the toy that grows with the boy, proven by the average age of most exhibitors, (somewhere past retirement).

My neighbour, Poul, has lots of that toy - he's 62 :-D
Wow! My husband and son and grandsons would have loved this . . . while we mere females would have stood by and admired. (I can't make anything for toffee - not even with Lego ;-/)
Meccano; the stuff of my childhood in the 1950s.
Very well in sync with my model train for today! :) The story is pretty much the same I guess.
Wow, that brings back some memories from over 50 years ago. I would have loved to see that show.
My boyfriend is a civil engineer and love building things, need I say he would have gone bonkers over this? lol
