Covent garden is one of the most famous markets in the world. It is known a fruit and vege market has been here since 1630. However archaeological digs in recent years points to activity here around AD 410.

Be careful of the "Day Old" fruit. It may be a lot old given the age of the market.
ooo oo ooo I have walked through there. It is a wonderful old joint. AD eh. Now that is a smidgin on the old side.
It's a fascinating area full of interesting folks. Great photo - must have been early in the day?

Gosh I didn't know about it going back to AD 410. Wow. I love this market and loved it when it was simply a fruit and veggie market too. When it went I was horrified but how it is now, with all the street theatre is great fun. And you can find nice things on the stalls too. Nice shot that really captures it. Love the reflection.
Incredible.
Wow, what an interesting factoid! I wonder how they manage archaelogical digs while still keeping business open?
I sometimes wish I could sit and meditate in places like this and conjure up images of the way it looked throughout history.

Last time I wandered through here, I was a tad disappointed. It seemed to have lost a bit of its quirkiness. I do like to watch the buskers though. (Have you been to Greenwich Indoor Market? I bet you have! It's ace!)
One of my favorite places in London. When we were there in May, I had to convince my hubby to go. :-) Love it!!
Wow. I wonder if it was a market even back then.
