As far back as ancient Rome, couples used to kiss under the mistletoe to seal a betrothal as they were assured of fertility and good fortune. The berries contain progesterone and the Celts believed them to heal the sick, make any living creature fertile, and bring good luck. Ciao. A.
After buying a sprig of mistletoe on impulse last Christmas, I was surprised how many people called out to me with cheerful jokes as I carried it home.

I know it dates from the 17th century but not how it arose.
Call me old-fashioned but I'd really rather see a kiss between a man and a woman ;-)

Love the kisses are always nice, it does not matter who does it.
Aaah, what a lovely shot! I definitely need to get down to Covent Garden and see the festivities!
It feels way too early for kissing under the Mistletoe. Is it just me or does the festive season seem to start earlier every year...
that
which we
call a kiss
by any other name
would taste as sweet
