Monopoly - Marlborough St

Monopoly orange square. £180.

This square differs depending on which monopoly board you are following. We are following the Ordnance Survey map see GO. This takes us over to SW3. An area of public housing since the beginning of the 20th century.
This apartment covered in hand prints caught my eye. The woman who lives here has fostered children most of her adult life. Currently fostering her 20th child, in 19 years. These prints are those of all those children. The star of our tour don't you think?

Definitely the star so far.

For those of you enjoying this Monopoly series, as I am, and who want to take their interest further, I can recommend Tim Moore's highly entertaining book 'Do Not Pass Go' in which he examines the history of each location on the board in an amusing read.

He goes against the official Ordnance Survey map – posted at the start of this series – in his choice of Marlborough Street, and I am inclined to agree with him. He asserts this name is short for Great Marlborough Street (once home to a Philip Morris cigarette factory, hence the brand name 'Marlboro'). What links the yellow/orange properties on the London board is the law: Bow Street (Runners, the pre-cursor to the modern police force), Vine Street (police station), Great Marlborough Street (magistrates court).

Drats! Now you have reminded me that I was going to try to get hold of a Parisian Monopoly set. Well now I am back in Oz and ... drats.

These hand prints and the story behind them are just wonderful, Mo.

That is a good story and an idea the kids would love.

I love the handprints. She definitely is the star. It takes dedication to foster unknown children.

What a lovely thing to do! How did you find out about them, did you knock and ask?
