Next Saturday is the real thing. The Trooping of the colours is an annual event held on the official birthday of the monarch. Unlike the rest of us she gets two birthdays. Her real one is 26 April, then the official one when she checks out her troops in this spectacular parade.
These big events have to be perfect. So there are a couple of trial runs. Yesterday was rehearsal number two. If you don't mind the carriages being empty, then these days are a great way to get a good view of proceedings. In fact you can apply to get a ringside ticket. It is done by ballot each year.
It's stirring stuff, if rather archaic:-)
ReplyDeleteThe troops sure are colourfull!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tradition! Love those beautiful horses and the uniforms of their riders!
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat the British for tradition, personally I think it's fantastic, love the pomp and ceremony, and by the look of the crowds behind the barricades I'm not alone. Great shot Mo.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I was watching them on the news.
ReplyDeleteUgh, my Sweetheart is going to miss that by one day, he's getting London on the 13th! The friend he's meeting there will get to see it though, so at least he'll get to see pictures of it I'm guessing!
ReplyDeleteI would certainly enjoy doing that if I were there.
ReplyDeleteNice snap , Two birthdays that's amazing .
ReplyDeleteAs an ex-soldier my dad used to love watching this, just so he could yell,"Call that a straight line...? Ptah! The Guards eh, what do they know?"
ReplyDeleteMy daughter took me to a rehearsal a couple of years ago. So colourful and, as you say, almost as good as the real thing. (At least you can get close enough to see!)
ReplyDeleteI best even Disney couldn't match this! And I'm sure the Queen deserves two birthdays...
ReplyDeleteWe should all have 2 birthdays or at least 2 birthday cakes! Love the British pomp.
