Cycling in London really is the best way to get around. Faster than the tubes and buses. Reliable. Anyone that has experienced tube delays will know what I am talking about. However it can be dangerous. Never never get on the left hand side of a lorry.
A fatality occurred on this spot on the corner of York way and Pentonville Rd a few days ago. More information is on this blog I came across recently, Cycling in London, Olaf has created a spreadsheet recording all cyclist accidents in London since 2006. He remains a cycle enthusiast despite its dangers. Great site for all London cyclists.
It's years since I cycled in London, but I remember taxis being the ones to watch out for! (Hire cars rather than black cabs!)
ReplyDeleteJust last night on the news there was a story about a cyclist here who ran through a red light and was hit by a car. Cycling is a good way to get around in many locations but, they really do need to be extremely careful.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! Love it.
ReplyDeleteDaft folks do ignore lorries and buses. Taxis were always safe in London, mini cabs less so. Common sense saved a lot of problems when I cycled there.
ReplyDeleteBy the way that picture looks like a painting. Really good.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad.. we've had a handful of bicyclist fatalities lately here in Seattle... even one is too many.
ReplyDeleteHorrible, so many accidents actually. I cycle everywhere in London if I can and I'll definitely check this site.
ReplyDeleteI found it scary walking across the roads in London - kept looking the wrong way. Can't imagine cycling there.
ReplyDeleteamazing picture !

Motorists the world over I think drive too fast past cyclists.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't bike here but love the shiny reflections! Great shot.V
ReplyDeletelovely shot!
ReplyDeleteIt is a sad -- but unfortunately increasingly common -- story. I like bicycling, but I am pretty conservative about where I ride. Your photo is exceptional. It is too bad it was prompted by a fatal accident.
