The observation deck in the Shard will open in February 2013 and tickets are now on sale.
You'll be whizzed up to floor 68 where you will have 360 degree views over London. State of the art tellscopes (no that is not a spelling mistake, they are digital telescopes with computer screens) will help you figure out where everything is. Then for more of a buzz you can go up to the 72nd floor and peer up into the workings of the buildings and feel the air from the outside.
At £24.95 per person it's not going to be the cheapest of family outings, but this is the tallest building in Northern Europe.

such a nice view!
Ugly, knock it down.
I like it and would gladly pay to get a view from up there.
I'd love to see the view from the top. Knowing my luck it would be a cloudy day . . . ;-/
it will be difficult for me not to spend £25 if I'm ever in the area!
What I pity: my next visit to London is in october so I'LL pass the panorama this year....
greetings from Berlin
This is a beautiful shot! I love it. I can't believe they're selling tix but it's not even open yet.
Would love to visit!
I want to go! The last time I visited London, construction had just started and it was barely off the ground but, I remember reading a story in the Newspaper about what it would look like. Speaking of "high" places, Harden's, the London restaurant review company, sent me an email telling about a new restaurant called Sushisamba on the 38th floor of a building with an outdoor dining area. The photo in the email looked fabulous.
I guess I've regretted not paying a hefty sum to soak in amazing views atop the former tallest building in America (World Trade Center, NY), so I would be willing to pay this. A very lovely photo, could be a postcard!
Sorry. I would skip it.
That is quite a tall story!
lovely shot. Can't believe the Shard is so controversial - bet those tellscopes are fascinating. I'd certainly pay the fare for the expeerience.
