In times of austerity when we are all told to tighten our belts and accept cuts, why then are transport costs increasing?
Yesterday London's Mayor Boris Johnson announced that tube fares are to go up by 4.2%. Let's not forget they went up at the beginning of this year by 5.6%.
And if you thought you could escape the increases by taking a "Boris Bike" then be prepared for a whopping 100% increase.

Shame on you, Boris!
Bummer.
You have to buy a bike of your own, second hand?
Wow, those are some steep increases. Crazy.
Argh, so frustrating that London's cost of living just keep going through the stratosphere! I also resorted to a 2nd hand bike once, but biking in London isn't always easy.
Oh my gosh, that's awful! The rates go up regularly in Montreal, but our service has been constantly improving as well. The rates are also usually moderate, no more than 1$ or 2$ at a time.
Maybe the riders' fees were not paying the full cost and taxpayers were subsidizing the tube. Best to have those WH use it pay most of the cost.
