Most of London was divided up and given by various monarchs to a handful of families, the area of Bloomsbury was owned by the
Duke of Bedford. In 1920 the Liverpool Friendly Society bought a parcel of land to build
Victoria House, however some of the leaseholders refused to vacate their houses. As a result the building was originally built in an unusual shape, with the middle part not completed until more than a decade later.
