Afghan Summer Festival

I ventured out to South Harrow to participate in the Afghan community summer festival.
It is always fun to see what activities are unique or special to different communities.  Without a doubt kite flying is the most popular activity.

First is the serious business of selecting the right kite. No matter if you are big boys or

little boys.

And not forgetting the girls.

Then the pure joy of having your kite fly higher than anyone else's.

I'm sure they had fun day kite flying. Haven't done that myself for a few decades.

I remember flying kits when I was a kid. It does give you a 'soaring' feeling.

This is fascinating. Who'd think there would be an Afghan festival in England? Looks like great fun, tho!

What a lovely day this must've been - love seeing kites being flown. Especially right in a large metropolis.

I have read that kite flying is a distinctively Afghan thing to do. The Kite Runner was a huge bestseller about a decade ago.
