These panels featuring the Company's coat of arms is believed to have survived and come from the entrance of the first hall.
In 1941 a bomb fell on London Wall, igniting a gas main and set fire to the building. Fortunately most of the treasures inside were saved. However it was not until 1956 that it was rebuilt.
Taking 4 years to build the new hall was designed to be a showcase for its members skills and also features beautiful timbers from around the world.
Another good tour!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very grand. I like the panels with the coat of arms.
ReplyDeleteNice, I like those open monument days. We had them too last weekend. The hall looks beautiful restored.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous wood-panelling in the top shot, and I bet the table is worth a fortune.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a wonderful place to visit.
ReplyDeleteThese are fun scenes to see.
ReplyDeleteFabulous! One of these days I'll get my act together and get out on Open House Weekend. Last year, I had an overseas visitor but this year I was recovering from Italy!
