Was this the shop that inspired the book? It is not certain, however it is a real 16th century building and probably the oldest building in London. These days it sells very stylish shoes.
It is known that it was on the estate given to one of Charles II mistresses. The interior features beautiful wooden beams and creaking floor boards, made from old sailing ships. It is a miracle that the shop survived the great fire of London and then the bombing of London during WWII.

I stopped by here on one of my very first visits to London but I can't recall seeing it on later visits.
It looks like it has very low ceilings. How about I wait outside for you while you go in to look at the shoes?
Used to get my hair cut next door. It never seemed to be open when I'd go by, but I was never all that curious to go inside, ironically.
It is old no doubt, but not the oldest in London; Westminster Abbey for example dates from the 13th century.
