Today will see all the pomp and ceremony of the Lord Mayor's parade, an annual event where the newly elected Lord Mayor travels from the City of London to Westminster to swear loyalty to the crown. Traditional costumes, swords, and a golden coach it is a pageant that has been part of the history of London for 800 years.
This year for only the second time ever the new Lord Mayor is a woman. Fiona Ward an energy and infrastructure lawyer led the legal team that restructured and privatised the national grid. Her platform for her year in office perhaps not surprisingly is "energy to transform lives".
The parade is worth watching if you haven't seen it before. You can download the route map here. The grand finale is a firework display on the Thames at 5pm.

Are you in it...?
One thing in which we Brits lead the world - ceremonial.
Beautiful shots!
Well, at least you don't have a mayor in your country who has drunken stupors and smokes crack. Unfortunately we do, and he can't take a hint.
So she is the one we have to tank for the energy bills we now have. It should still be under national control. Nice shot of the carriage
I'd like to hitch a lift.
Look at that gold coach!
