On wet and cold days in the next few weeks we will visit museums and galleries. Let me know if there is any you would especially like to see. Today we are at the British Museum visting the most popular section - the mummies. I like seeing the elaborate outer caskets.
I'm not so keen on seeing the mummified wrapping
and under the wrapping just freaks me out.

What a great way to spend a week!
Toughen up Mo. He's dead and can do you no harm. (:-0)
I have mot been there in years, last one I went to was the Natural History Museum and plan to return at some time soon.
One place I really want to go is the Imperial war museum, not been there since I was a kid.
I liked this museum very much, there is so much to see.
Did a trip down the Nile a few years ago on a Dahabiya, visited many of the temples - great trip and puts the mummies in context.
Probably good to be freaked out every now and then.
Mummies are fascinating but I have some concerns regarding research involving unwrapping them, however respectfully and reverentially it is done. These people were 'put to rest' centuries ago and I do wonder if they should not be left in peace.
I'm not sure how I did it but, I missed these guys when I was there. That one on the bottom is pretty well preserved.
It sounds like the place to be on cold, wet days. I'm glad we get to come along.
Just don't read the Book Of The Dead around them.
This is the sort of place I'd love to spend time in. I remember going to a museum in Toronto as a child and checking out the collection of mummies there.
I went to the same museum as William and the mummies were always on the must-see list!
This will be a good project for you and for us.
I think it is important for us to learn about the mummifying process, but I don't think we need to see the actual body. That does seem disrespectful.
The bodies freak me out too - but only because it makes you realise how much like us they appeared.
