Outside the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) is this statue of Tiruvalluvar the tamil poet and philosopher who wrote the Tirukkural a body of work written in rhyming couplets that is one of the Tamil books of law that discusses ethics. The 133 chapters are grouped into three sections: righteousness, wealth and love.
The statue was unveiled in 1996 in a ceremony that included the High Commissioner of India and several dignitaries associated with the university and the Tamil community. Both the commemorating plaque and the book that was in his hands have been stolen. Fans of his teachings do you suppose?

It's a beautiful statue, too bad someone took his book and plaque away.
I can't imagine fans destroying the context of the statue. Like Bill said, it must have been metal thieves.
