Gas Lamp

One of the few old Victorian gas lamps that still survivies stands slog the Strand not far from the Savoy Hotel.  It was said these lamps were fuelled by the sewer gases and as a result this lane was nicknamed "farting lane".

I like seeing relics of the past. Old pillar boxes are interesting, too.

I love the shape of these old lamps, we still have several dotted around the centre of Cambridge. Very atmospheric - in more ways than one!
