Vaisakhi 2014

A big party was held at Trafalgar Square yesterday to celebrate the Sikh New Year and the start of the harvest festival.

Music both traditional and modern,  Bollywood dancing and Dohl drumming, or you could learn how to dance the Bhangara.  Make up artists were there to add a bit of glam.  Or you could partake in the turban dressing workshop, it was fun to see so many non Sikhs wearing bright orange turbans.

Face- painting, trinket shopping, spices and chutneys were all on sale.  And the food... those wonderful smells wafting across the Square.

For 30 years we were neighbours with the Singhs, a wonderful family and boy did they know how to party. Their weddings and New Years Eve parties are etched in our memory.

You sure do get around, Doll, er, Mo. My camera and I would have loved this celebration, too. Very fine images.

I bet those spicy scents would have made me hunger for some good curry.

Here we often see politicos trying to score points by showing up at these events in the orange headwear.

Very colourful attire, particularly in that first shot.
