Above the entrance of the gate are the words "special girls", this harks back when this was one of the entrances to the very strict Victorian school. The building behind the gate wasn't always a school however, its earlier history was as a detention centre where prisoners were held prior to being sent to prison. As is becoming the norm in inner London it is now expensive apartments.

Back in the "good old days".
Good spot again!
I guess the girls must have had a hard time.
The image is nice with the people and the dog, shadow and light.
Happy weekend.
(I am looking forward to see where Ted is going this weekend.)
A prison turned into a school for "special girls" and now expensive apartments. Sometimes, some schools are hard to differentiate from prisons! ;)
I remember something like this on Elephant and Castle, but the sign was slightly different...
A strange mix of history and life- and of course the apartments to come will be too expensive.
Special girls?!
. . . and I hope they're haunted . . .
From what I read and see London appears to be undergoing a wipeout of historical areas and unaffordable housing built. A shame. Your photography though always a welcome sight.
"Special girls" could bode ill if the building is a former prison!
