Do people really buy and wear these jumpers? Well yes they do. When I first moved to the UK the things that really stood out for me is the Brits capacity and love to dress up. Any occasion and any outfit. The Xmas jumper is one of the more tame dress up days. This year it will be December the 18th. Expect everyone from kids in prams to business executives to be wearing a jumper like these.
It is not all crazy, they will also be raising money for charity. This year is Macmillan Cancer support, Make-A-Wish UK and Save the Children. If you want to take part get your kit here.

I think they are great
No! No! and thrice NO!
All the market stalls are full of them, and as you say lots dress up. Ididnt realise there was a designated day. Do people still wear them to the pub on Xmas morning?
Think they'd give me nightmares!!!!! L)
Apparently they do. There's a shop up here actively marketing something called Ugly Christmas Sweaters.
When I was a teenager I used to see a lot of Christmas sweaters and vests but I don't see very many any more. Maybe doing it for a charity would bring it back.
Buy one for someone you don't really like!
Now my grandchildren love them ... and it is for a good cause !
All the best Jan
Let it be noted that I do not have a sweater (US for "jumper") anything like those.
And, no, I never heard of the rude boys, though I did google the term after your comment.
Made me smile when I saw the photo.
I did not know the story behind.... about the cancer support.
A fun and important event.
Ha ha. I think I will opt out!
